The world was introduced to Genesis as a high-end Hyundai for the 2009 model year, but a lot has changed in the more than ten years that have passed. Genesis became its own brand after Hyundai introduced the full-size luxury Equus sedan, which was replaced by the G90 in 2017. Now that the 2023 Genesis G90 is here, Genesis’ standing among premium automakers has been further enhanced.
The 2023 Genesis G90, designed for CEOs and majors, offers a whisper-quiet cabin and magic carpet ride. It does challenge traditional luxury rivals like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8, and BMW 7 Series. However, it doesn’t just cater to passengers in the backseat; drivers are also taken care of with a snappy engine and a remarkably capable chassis. The G90 is a sophisticated sedan that can impress anyone, regardless of their budget, thanks to its advanced technology features.
Overview
The Genesis G90, the company’s large luxury cruiser, comes back with a completely new look, drivetrain, and feature set. The new G90 keeps the attributes that made it a breakout success, like a smooth ride, plenty of space, and first-class comfort, and refines the formula with greater in-car technology, better fuel efficiency, and more advanced driver assistance systems.
A new V6 engine in two variations is one of the noteworthy modifications. The upgraded turbocharged V6 features an electronic supercharger that enhances power at lower speeds, thereby increasing its overall horsepower to 375. As a result, the turbocharger winds up with little discernible lag during acceleration. Although the E-Supercharger version has 409 horsepower instead of the previous V8’s 420 horsepower, it still produces more low-end push and has marginally higher fuel efficiency.
According to estimates, the 2023 Genesis G90 will score 20 mpg combined with the supercharger and 21 mpg combined in regular trim, an increase of 1 to 3 mpg combined.
The G90 is exactly as stunning inside as it was before. There are numerous leather and leather-like surfaces, including Nappa on the seats, microsuede on the headliner, and exquisitely realistic-looking faux leather on the consoles, door panels, and dash. The redesigned dash design features dual 12-inch screens for digital gauges, system status, and infotainment, resulting in a more linear and simplified design with fewer buttons. The device uses a rotating mechanism to select gears, while the other controls the touchscreen’s learning curve, which determines the appropriate button to use. The dual rotary dials in the center console have the feel of a user interface case study.
2023 Genesis G90: Cargo, Comfort
The 2023 facelift aimed to elevate the interior of the G90 to compete with rivals like the Audi A8 and the BMW 7-series. Posh materials and a slew of standard features pair with the brand-new design. Both the front and back seats have plenty of room for passengers. Nappa leather is also standard, as are vented, heated, and massage-equipped front seats, power sunshades, active noise cancellation, and premium audio. According to Genesis, there is also an anti-microbial sanitation system that purifies the air, as well as an onboard aroma diffuser. Rear seats in the G90 E-supercharged variants recline and provide ventilation and a massage setting.
2023 Genesis G90: How It Works
The best term to describe the G90 driving experience is “serene.” The air suspension keeps the cabin from being more harshly affected as the large sedan glides down the road. Although you can feel bumps and utility covers thanks to the suspension, it doesn’t let them ruin the driving experience. This helps you know when you’re traveling on rougher roads. While lacking any sort of input, the steering is smooth. The G90 offers a solid feel typical of full-size luxury sedans, yet it’s not excessive like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which sacrifices nimbleness for weight.
When you apply full throttle while the car is in Comfort mode, the G90’s upgraded drivetrain reacts with respectable power. In Sport mode, full-throttle acceleration felt a little quicker, and transmission kick downs happened swiftly. The accelerator pedal reaction in Eco mode is more sluggish than in certain Eco settings, yet it remains acceptable.
At highway speeds, the drivetrain has adequate reserve power, but it doesn’t provide a powerful surge of acceleration. The G90’s twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine powers a mild hybrid and supercharged drivetrain, boosting its horsepower and torque by 34 horsepower and 14 pounds of torque. The vehicle uses premium fuel and has an EPA rating of 17/24/20 mpg city/highway/combined, slightly lower than the G90’s base 375-hp, twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6.
2023 Genesis G90: Interior
The G90’s interior features a suede-like headliner, matte-wood trim, and standard Nappa leather seating surfaces. The fit and finish are flawless (as you would expect from a luxury vehicle costing six figures). One of the cabin’s minor design flaws is its silver buttons and controls, which make it more difficult to read their letters and icons during the day (although they are easier to read at night). When sunlight hit the touchscreen for the climate control system just right, it was also challenging to read.
A console knob controller or a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen can be used to control the entertainment system’s display. However, it’s still pleasant to be able to connect with the system using the touchscreen. The screen menus are simple to traverse using the console controller, and utilizing voice commands to input a navigation location worked nicely.
The included 360-degree camera system provides a fantastic view of your surroundings and supplements good visibility from the driver’s seat. Unfortunately, if you’re wearing polarized sunglasses, the image from the conventional head-up display mostly vanishes.
First-class backseat amenities include available power-adjustable outer seats, media controls, and a massage function. Legroom is available, and the reclining backrest significantly improves passenger comfort. Power sunshades and optional powder-coated rear-seat mirrors are further convenience features.

Genesis G90 Models
Two trim versions of the large luxury sedan Genesis G90 are available for 2023: the G90 3.5T AWD and the G90 3.5T E-Supercharger AWD. A turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive power both of them. In base trim, the V6 generates 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. The E-Supercharger variant adds an electric supercharger for a 409 horsepower and 405 lb-ft power boost, as its name suggests.
Summary
Hyundai’s spin-off Genesis, which debuted as a separate brand in 2015, has caused quite a stir in the automotive sector. The Korean automaker now offers a complete lineup with three sedans, three crossovers, and both ICE and all-electric drivetrain options. Its most current model, the second-generation G90 flagship, outperforms the first thanks to its daring style, new engines, and mind-blowing interior.
