“How to screen record on a Chromebook” Recording your device’s screen can be helpful, but sometimes you need to download a third-party app to do so. Just like on Android phones, Chrome OS has a built-in tool that makes it easy to create screen recordings on your Chromebook.

How To Filter Recordings On Chromebook

When you want to sift through the records on your Chromebook, you need to open the toolbar, similar to when you take a screenshot. When you open the same toolbar that you use to take screenshots, that’s where the similarities end.

To filter recordings on a Chromebook:

  • Click the shelf with the Clock, Battery, and Wi-Fi icons, and then select the Screen Capture button.
  • If you don’t see it the first time you launch the menu, click the up arrow to fully expand the menu.
  • Once the menu is fully expanded, you can click the Screenshot button.
  • The screenshot widget will appear at the bottom of the screen. Make sure to select the video icon to record the screen. Otherwise, you will get a screenshot if you select the camera icon.
  • The toolbar offers a variety of recording options. For example, you can choose to record the entire screen, a specific window, or part of the screen.
  • Choose how you want to record the screen, and it will start automatically. However, if you select a specific section or window, it will wait while you select the screen area to record.
  • Then, click the Save button in the desired screen section.
  • A red record button will appear on the taskbar, and you can click it when you want the recording session to stop.
  • It’s important to note that you can change your screen recording settings before taking a picture. Click the Settings button (gear icon) to choose a different save location, turn the front camera on or off, and turn the microphone on or off.

How To Manage Screen Recording Files On A Chromebook

Like the screenshots on your Chromebook, you’ll find the logs in your Downloads folder. A message will appear when the screen recording is complete, and you can view it in the folder. However, you may want to share or play your screen recording first. If it’s there, double-click the “saved in WEBM format” file.

To find and manage your screen recording files on your Chromebook:

  • Click the File icon.
  • Go to the Downloads folder and find your recording(s). To make things easier, Chrome OS calls screenshots screenshots and screen recordings.
  • To play a video, double-click on it, it will open and start playing. The player includes basic playback controls, so you can navigate through the video. For example, here we have recorded audio in the notification center. After locating your screen recording files, you can save, share, view, or store them in Google Drive.

How To Use Screencast To Record Chromebook Screens

Google has launched a new screen recording app for Chromebooks called Screencast. If you’ve updated your device to Chrome OS 103, you’ll find it in the app drawer. Screencast is an advanced screen recording tool for students and teachers, but anyone can enjoy this great new tool. You can create fun lessons and demonstrations by recording your screen with Screencast on your Chromebook.

For example, in addition to recording your screen and voice, you can also include your face with your webcam, draw on the screen, create a recording, provide translations, and more. That said, keep in mind that Screencast currently only works if the language on your device is set to English (US).

Now learn how to record your Chromebook screen with the new Screencast app:

  1. Make sure you’ve updated your Chromebook to Chrome OS 103. Then, open the app drawer and click on the Screencast app.
  2. Next, click “New Screencast” in the top left corner to start screen recording on your Chromebook.
  3. Then you can select full-screen, windowed, or partial areas to record. The microphone and webcam are by default enabled, which you can disable from the “settings” icon at the bottom.
  4. Now click the red icon on the shelf to start recording. You can click the “pen” icon to see the caption and drag the webcam view to any angle you want. Once done, click the red “stop” button on the Chrome OS shelf. 5. You will find the recording in the Screencast app. Here, you can view the recording and edit it.
  5. Finally, click “Share” to share the screen recording using a shareable link. Note that Screencast does not record video locally, which is disappointing.
